All this recent talk of cams and jetting has got me thinking it is about time I overcame my lethargy and got stuck in.

The Wilcox cams look pretty appealing, I am wondering if anyone has used them, or knows how they compare to other T300 cams?

I know that Wilcox don't do email, so that probably limits their sales somewhat.

I spoke to the folks at Wilcox about a year ago and got as much info as I could from them as well as specs from a Wes Dean who has a set. The specs are kind of iffy and don't quite agree between Wes' installation data and what Wilcox quoted.

The basic idea is that they're about the same duration as the Trophy cam with the lift of the Super III cams. Wilcox also offsets the exhaust cam a few degrees to give a bit more torque on the bottom end by "stealing" it from the top end. That way you get some of the benefits of the Super III cams and the bottom end torque of the stock cam.

The cams are an excellent choice for a Classics model with the stock igniter, but I wouldn't put them in a bike with a high rev limit. I think the valve train accelerations would get a bit too high for reliability.

Thanks Jim,

They sound promising, the inlet cam seems a little lumpy for this application- at least compared to the mild exhaust cam.

Did the people at Wilcox have any jetting information? I imagine they had some dyno time in the development.

No jetting info from Wilcox, but as long as the stock filter box is retained it shouldn't be much different from the stock jetting -- maybe one or two jet sizes larger.

The increase in duration of the new cam will increase the overall airflow but the instantaneous airflow won't change much since the restriction of the stock filter box remains a constant.

What jetting really comes down to is selecting jets for the inherent restriction in the system rather than jetting for the improvement in airflow.
