Is it possible for both the center stand and side stand to be installed at the same time. I had a Honda back in the late seventies that had both as standard equipment with the bike. Al the photos that I have seen of the classic triples have either the center stand or the side stand but not both. Thanks in advance.
Yep, Legend too, no problem. Just note that the Tbird & Legend centre stands are different dimensions - you must get the right one for the Legend. If you need a part no., I can look one up for you.
I installed the center stand on my '98 TBS according to the instructions, but have only one issue. When the stand is in the down position, the return spring is pinched between the stand frame and the inside exhaust pipe (remember, the '98/'99 have all pipes on the right hand side). To fully stow the stand, I must gently pull the pipe away from the spring before it can clear the space between the pipe and the stand frame. Once in the stowed position there is no interference.
Everything pretty much mounts up only one way. I double checked to make sure I installed the spring in the correct orientation, too.
The part number was for the TB/Adventurer, but the sales guy assured me it mounted on all years of the TBS as well.
The spring is on the right on my Legend & fouled the Thunderbike pipe. My simple fix was to connect the lower spring hook to the stand's cross brace with a couple (3 I think) of heavy duty zip ties. The spring hook tied about 5 to 10mm short of the brace gives about the right tension. One zip tie would have been strong enough but I added more to give some generous 'redundancy' should one tie fail - you don't want the stand suddenly dropping down!
It will bolt up, but the difference is the height of the legs.
If the center stand is too tall for your suspension getting the bike up on to the center stand is quite difficult.
So if you have modified your suspension a TBird Center stand might be more appropriate.
Sorry, I didn't read carefully enough. I replaced the side stand, not the center stand on my Legend. The Legend center stand works just fine with my ZX11 shock. The Tbird sidestand came off ebay.
with the zx9 shock in mine the rear wheel was still on the ground on the center stand because of the extra 20mm the zx9 shock gives you , was taking the center stand off anyway dont need them IMO
well i don't have a motorcycle stand (yet) and using a center stand to lube the chain after a ride is far more convenient than using a jack. since i don't have my rear suspension upgraded (yet), would using the center stand from a Tbird not be advisable?
You look like a Strong Young Chap, so you would have a much easier time than I.
If you are planning to raise the rear suspension I'd probably go for a TBird Center Stand. You can always roll rear of the bike up on a 1 inch thick block of wood to make it easier to bring it up on the Center Stand, in the meantime.
Paddock stands are probably less expensive.
Are you planning to make it to the Classics Rally?
if you put the TBIRD one on until you do the shock it will be harder to pull it back up onto stand because it is longer .i have one of these easy to use and $100 aussie brand new
I have a stock Legend centre stand with a ZX9 shock. With the front lowered 10mm (at the stanchion/top yoke) the rear tyre is just clear of the ground when on the stand. With the front standard, the tyre is still on the ground. In either case the bike is much easier to raise up on the stand & can be done without hernias even when the bike's loaded. IMO, the height lifted by the stock stand/suspension set up is unneccesarily high, so I'm happy with it as I have it now.
actually i bought a decent paddock stand for $30 but it wouldn't fit since the mufflers cover most of the swing arm which was why i opted for a center stand. i'll probably just buy a jack/lift stand instead since most center stands go for more when they show up
i'm definitely gonna try for the rally. i'll post a reply in the thread now
