Hello all,

In the last 1000 miles on my 1996 Adventurer, I notice the Tachometer needle starting to "twitch" (500 rpm twitch typical) in the 3000 to 5000 rpm range. I figured it was time for a new cable, but couldn't seem to find any cable lead into the tach. Also I didn't see any cable lead from the engine (like my '82 Suzuki) to the instrument cluster. Is the Adventurer tach electronic? Yikes, if so I have no idea then why the tach is "twitchy". Thought it was an old tach cable that needed replacing.

Guess I'd better purchase a shop manual really soon, but thought I'd ask this forum first for advice.

Thanks, Daddy-O

Hi, it is electronic. Try a search here for "tach" or "tachometer. Last year there were several threads on this issue. My mind is like a sieve so I can't remember exactly where to tell you to look, but I do remember the threads.

Check for a bad ground connection in the headlamp housing. Suppose to be a common problem.

Mine got a bit twitchy a while back- it was the power wire at fault. It hooks up with 4 others inside the sleeving from the clocks to the headlight, and it is just a crimped joint.

I soldered the joint and it has been fine since.
