Wonder if someone can end my confusion over this? I've seen a number of topics on this from people who obviously have a lot of knowledge of the T/bird, legend etc, saying that fitting after market cans alone does not require carb re-jetting, but ......

My 98 T/bird has the Triumph off-road cans (peashooters?). Since fitting I have developed pre-ignition at low revs/low throttle which higher octane fuel reduces but does not eliminate. Also my exhaust pipes have gone much bluer suggesting lean mixture or a timing problem? No other mods that would affect things, but I did change the plugs at the same time with the recommended part. Even under hard driving I am getting about 45-50 mpg (Imp gallons) or 9-10 mpl, which seems high from other members comments I have read.

Do I need to jet up or raise needles on the Keihin carbs? Or should I be looking elsewhere, eg timing?

Any suggestions appreciated.
Cheers :???:

I had the same issue after drilling the pipes on my Adventurer. I had also just changed the plugs like you did.

Fix: Resynced the carbs and ALL 3 of my plugs were loose enough to turn with my fingers. (even though I thought I had them tight with the wrench...It was binding up in the plug hole) Just tigtened them.

Later I added an K&N air filter and 19t front sprocket. I then had to get larger jets, the next bigger size and raise the needles one notch.

My gas milage went from 45 to 55+mpg.

BTW, My understanding that if the pipes are blueing it means you are running too rich (too much gas) causing the gas to burn in the pipes. This would also causing some back-firing / popping at low rpm's.
