how many of you know that,if you just change the carb rubbers on your thunderbird to the ones from a thunderbird sport.you will then have82bhp instead of 69 bhp.add the triumph off road pipes and you get 90 bhp.add the speed triple cams you get102bhp.this makes the bike interesting.cheers.geoff

I really wish for you that it would be that simple. I never looked at a TB up close but from what I know there are a few differences.

1. The carb rubber may not be the restrictive one on all models. I think it depends on the carbs you have.

2. I do not know if the air resonator found on the TBS is found on the TB but apperently it does make a difference.

3. The pipes crossover on the TBS is not present on the TB.

G'day Rambo,
I think you might be a little optimistic regarding power output. My T'bird, with 'off-roads/unrestricted carb rubbers, is certainly better than with stock mufflers, but an increase of 21bhp....I don't think so. I believe the figures quoted by Triumph for the TBS were optimistic to say the least, & reckon that my T'bird probably improved by maybe 8 or 10 bhp max with pipes/rubbers. As for getting 102bhp, theoretically possible, but far cheaper to buy a 102bhp motor, than to try & get the stock T'bird motor to produce this. Then there's brakes, suspension etc that need upgrading to handle the extra power.
regards
Cuppa

Here was my solution to the t-bird horsepower/brake/suspension problem:

120hp

r1 brakes

fully adjustable suspension

It may not have character, but it gets the job done.

I traded my original ('98) TBS for one of those, a move I lived to regret. Way too fast. For adults only.

what happened?

I'm not out to go 140, I just want to be able to have some fun and do a little touring with it.

Do a little touring? I can think of quite a few bikes better suited to touring than the FZ1. If I had that bike I would be a hooligan monster or die trying to be one. That bike must feel light years ahead of your old Tbird in the twisties.
