The Tbird is my first water-cooled bike, and I'm wondering, is there anything in particular I need to be worried about storing it outside in sub-freezing temps? Obviously I'd prefer to keep it indoors when I can, but I live at 7200' elevation, and it still drops down to 10-20 degrees at night here (although it can be up to 60-65 during the day.)

Right now the bike is at my dad's house in Fort Collins, in the garage, but after I pick it up on Saturday, it will be stored outside for at least 2 months.

I assume that like any car sold in the Rocky Mountain region, the Tbird came from the dealer with an antifreeze mixture in the radiator, but was wondering if there's anything else I need to worry about. I plan to keep it covered when not riding, but I don't think the cover is going to help much when it's 21 degrees outside (like it is now.)

My TBS survived this last winter with me leaving it outside overnight while I was at work 4 times a week for ten-11 hours at a stretch and we got down to temps of 16 not counting wind chill during this last winter.

If you are unsure that the current anitfreeze mix in the bike may not be ok for your environment ( I would check with the dealer ) you could drain the coolant and make sure your replacement anitfreeze mix is good for your conditions,
Be sure to use the correct coolant for the thunderbird.

I dont have a manual handy but some bikes needs phosphate free etc.

If they just changed the coolant though and are located in a similar region I don't know that I would bother.

If you are not sure what anti-freeze you have got in the bike or how old it is change it anyway, the book that i have says mobil anti-freeze at 50/50 mixture, hope this helps.

Ride safe Ben.
