Coming through a stop sign I got hit by a driver - I'm okay, but my bike is busted up. I'm so upset. I was at a stop sign, stopped, and then as I took off, this woman came out of nowhere and knocked me down. I just got my new full faced helmet, and I guess I didn't turn my head enough to see.

***** it.

I just feel stupid. Thank God I have insurance. The bike looks like an easy fix, so it shouldn't take too long, but I'm just very, very upset right now. So is my wife.

Glad you are OK, but I know it is a bummer right now.

I believe that I am one of the few on here who wear an open faced full helmet. It is my opinion, and that is all it is, that peripheral vision is markedly better than with a full-face helmet, and that you hear better with an open face helmet. I KNOW that they aren't as protective in a crash; but I think it is a trade off between possibly avoiding a crash in the first place because you can see and hear better, vs getting scraped up if you slide on your face, which could be a real mess. Others will feel strongly differently, I know.

But that is neither here nor there for you right now. I just want you to know that it is great that you are in one piece!

Ditto for me, glad you’re okay.

After my accident I endlessly dissected the memories, searching for what I did wrong, what I did right, what was “unavoidable.” And after many sleepless nights and angst driven discussions with other bikers, I made peace with it.

Dealing with my wife (not a rider) was not easy. Still isn’t at times.

The insurance covered the costs and my shop was really helpful saving me money (“we can polish out those scratches, you don’t have to replace that”) during the fix up – and it allowed me to swap out the bars and pipes I had wanted to do anyway (no one has to know insurance is paying for non OEM parts . . . . .). I actually feel much better about the bike, and me as a rider, for the experience – which was horrible, but live and learn.

So, I wish you speedy healing – psyche, bike and home life.

There was a lot of crying last night at my house, but my wife understands that this isn't going to stop me riding. I couldn't sleep very well last night, so I'm sore and tired today, but otherwise okay. I will be going to the shop to talk to them about the bike and repairs today.

I think healing will be pretty quick.

Hang in there brother. Things like that happen to everyone that rides...... eventually. Glad you're O.K.

I disagree with you there Monte, My old open face had less visibility and cut more sound than my current Arai Quantum f. I think if you shop around and pick an open face carefully you dont have to sacrifice visibility. Arai's are a bit unusual in that they are particularly "sound transparent" - being desinged as race helmets as opposed road helmets I think that sound deadeneing qualities were ignored (or maybe they wanted the sound to get in?).

jhusman, I'm glad to see that you're not giving up riding. I was off a bike for eight years after being tagged by a car, strictly for emotional reasons...I just couldn't get comfortable on a bike for a long time.

Glad you're sticking with it, and really glad you didn't get hurt. Keep the faith.
