What do you guys use for basic chrome care?

Well, after reading through the owner's manual and all the disclaimers about properly taking care of the bike to preserve it's appearance... I have to ask, what has everybody found to work well? I think triumph had some reccomendations about waht not to use.. but I can't remeber exactly at this time.

The garage that my bike sits in... sucks... for lack of a better term. It is an integral part of the house, but in the winter it is cold and damp, and in the summer, it is cool and damp. Plus inthe summer, whe nthe door is opened, the blast of hot moist air makse everything fog with condesation! It is a place where rust or oxidation will start to take hold very easily, and I have seen it happen on bare steel and aluminum with ease!

I notice that the chrome parts of my bike start to pick up a pattern, that at least I notice, that looks like pitting as it would set in if time were allowed. Especially on the parts that I assume are a "lower quality" of chrome (headlight ears, rear turn signal mounts) to start with. Cleaning takes this away, but what would be good as a precationary measure?

Flitz metal polish should do the trick to clean things up on yor chrome and aluminum. I would also give it a coat of wax .

Regularly apply a good auto wax. I recommend autoglym super resin polish myself.

Sounds like a dehumifier may be a good addition for your garage?

I use a lot of different products, according to what kind of surface you are talking about. If the bike is going into storage, good ole WD-40 on the metal works as a preservative. Never Dull is a good polish, and it includes some additives for rust prevention.

I've been using "Never Dull" on everything since my old Army days.

I was using metal polish till I went to the auto store to get more, and decided to read the label, and read "not recommended on chrome finishes". DOH!
So I bought actual chrome polish. I have yet to try it.

Not for polishing - but for storing / sealing.

It is one of the recommended applications of the brand I use, but I don't know of any reason why that should be surprising.
