Thunderbird Sport 2004 Pannier Rails

Does anyone know if the A9750058 Pannier rails from a legend will fit my 2004 TBS? If not any advice on what will work? Better still some black alternatives. I'd love to get hold of some saddle bags and I'm guessing these rails are a must. Any advice on saddlebags would also be appreciated. Thanks

I never needed rails for my saddlebags. Strap them on top of the seat and they stay put.

Just use some bungee cords and nylon straps to keep it up out of the way of your tire if you are concerned about it.

Thanks for replying guys. Yes the bungee cord suggestion sounds good. What saddle bags/panniers are you using by the way?

I recently made saddlebags for my '04 TBS myself, completely from scratch. The problem with many saddlebags you throw over the seat is that they hinder the passenger. And they're ugly. And expensive.
I was able to make the bags so that there is no hinder for the passenger. As a result, they aren't very big, but it's better than nothing.

I'll try to post some pics soon.

Lieven, that sounds interesting. I'd be really interested in seeing the pics as hindrance to the pillion is one of my concerns. Thanks

I added painers to my TB over the weekend. I picked up a set of Saddleman "Cruis n Slant" saddlebags in the large size for $100 from Oneida Suzuki. (They have online ordering)

I simply took a couple of pieces of 1 X 1/8" Aluminum bar stock (Lowes or Home Depot) and four rubber insulated clamps (Lowes or HD). Using a couple pairs of pliers I bent the aluminum strap so it ended up flat to the back side of the painer.

One clamp mounted to the turn signal and the other to the foot peg mount

I removed the seat and simply adjusted the straps that comes with the bags so the two painers hung properly. I drilleed a hole through the strap and into the back of the saddle bag. I used a 1/4 x 20 bolt with a wind nut to hold them tight and stop them from flopping around.

Put the seat back on and your good to go

Some big ugly square fabric ones made by Neslon Rigg. I only use them for traveling. Or if the car craps ut and I n eed to go to the grocery store and buy too much. Then I stand int he parking lot trying to figure out how to get my ice cream home without it melting everyplace and question my decision to buy 2 for 1 bags of chocolate chip cookies.

They are still available from Triumph, cheaper than what they bring on Ebay.

musicisinmysoul, do you know what the part no. is? When I looked/asked for them they didn't seem to have anything (unless mean panniers for a thunderbird and not the TBS).
