Another Muffler question
I'm getting tired of waiting for a used set of stock or TOR peashooters to become available for my TBird, but I really want to maintain the look. I found a set of (current) Bonneville Peashooters, and they look ...close. It appears that the inlet is bent, while the TBird inlet is straight.
I wonder if the Bonneville inlet were to be cut off, would there would be enough "straight" section to slip on a TBird header pipe?
Or could a really good MIG welder weld on a collar without buggering up the chrome? Any thoughts?

Yes the inlets are bent, and there probably would not be enough left to mount them if you were to cut the radius off.
There is a whole world of aftermarket custom and replica mufflers which will fit, including peashooters meant for an older Bonneville.Just measure the OD of your header pipes, I believe they are 1.5". At most you will have to experiment with the rear mounts.

BBogie,
I finally found some stock muffs through a post on this forum. Aftermarket stuff runs the gamut from Staintune ($$$), D&D (LOUD), JC Whitney, EPCO, EMGO, and a couple others I do't remember but did not like the appearance of. Google the names and you'll find plenty of info; also do a search through this site for loads of data. I also found some interesting stuff on EBAY, as well as EBAY CA and EBAY UK. The UK guys never responded to my emails though... Their loss though, cause I would have paid twice what they were asking...
Also check out craigslist, but it's a pita searching by individual city. I did find some other bike stuff that way though...
How's the weather your way? It was 97F in Tucson today, and supposed to reach 100F tomorrow...

I drilled out a spare set of oem mufflers, tried them on my TBird, and couldn't go back to stock fast enough. It wasn't a nice sound, but then again I am used to vintage twin sounds.

Beemie,
Ahhh, don't tell me that. I'm just getting ready to do that this weekend. But, I know what you mean. Nothing like the 'loping of an "old" Bonnie or TR6, Especially with a mild cam and reverse megaphone muffs. I've listened to some utube videos of T3s with various muffs and pipes, and they remind me more of my (old) tricked out KawZ1 with Yoshimura pipes than my (even older) TR6 and Bonnie.
But the stock muffs still look good, and hopefully a little more noise will aid in stupid drivers hearing me as they change lanes into mine...

You should be able to buy TOR's yet from a dealer or Norman Hydes pipes look similar. I did drill the stock exhaust, liked the sound but bought the Off Road Exhaust and man it does sound a lot better.

Emgo seem to be prety universal, they have a range of stuff that should work (probably all made in China these days. It would be worth taking a look on JC Whitney, and also web sties for suppliers of old Brit stuff.

Pago,
The temperature has been really nice, mid 70's but windy and some rain and hail yesterday. I missed it and had a nice ride to and from work in between squalls. Nice cool spring here.

Don't be discouraged; I sold the modifieds very easily and turned a good profit.
