Are all the Classic's Aluminum Parts Lacquered?

While my parts are off to the painter, I have been cleaning, adjusting, lubricating, and making a few mods. Are the brackets that hold the foot pegs, brake lever, shifter lever, triple trees, etc. all lacquered? All my aluminum parts are very oxidized and dull.

The handlebar bracket and triple tree look like they are "spidering". I assume this may be the lacquer starting to crack. Can I just polish them, or will I need to do the stripper thing and then polish? I watched a video on polishing a Thunderbird cover by first removing the lacquer finish with stripper, and then buffing with a metal polishing compound.

This is the best site I've found for sharing information, and I've learned a lot already just from reading the older threads. Thanks guys for allowing us new folks access to all your hard earned information regarding these beautiful machines.

I believe I've developed a bit of an "obsession" with this bike...oh yeah!

The parts you mentioned are all lauqered, or some kind of clear finish. On both my bikes. The side covers and Cam cover on the '96 TBird are not laquered. If the oxidation is under the lacquer, the best way to get that show quality shine is to remove the lacquer. I think A Stripper would be the easiest way to do that as long as you remove the parts from the bike. Spilt stripper can make a horrible mess.

I did some metal polishing to the metal bits of my former t-bird. If your breaking out the buffing wheel get ready to get dirty. Metal polishing is dirty.

Just to be pedantic,

There are no ALUMINUM parts on a Triumph.
It is a british bike.
They are ALUMINIUM
