Kittlemeir got one off of e-bay. Here is what he had to say:
"Ebay Denso starter installed! Problems! Need advice! I received and installed the Denso starter that I won on ebay. Man this thing is strong. I don't know if the original was worn out or maybe it's just that weak but it sounds like a different bike while starting. It was listed for a Daytona/Speed Triple/Sprint for anyone looking to buy one.
Pretty good for $42."
Now, I have read that EX 500 *brushes* fit our starters, but if your commutator is "broken" then this will not help you. BTW- Commutators rarely "break", they do get bad spots, though (it will look like a burnt spot) and can sometimes be cleaned up using a commutator stone and a lathe if you can get the starter apart.
I recommend (1) shopping e-bay for a used starter, and (2) maybe try taking yours apart to see if the commutator can be cleaned up.
There was some other information here as far as buying a new starter goes. I will see what I can dig up....

When my starter failed, I took it to a place that specialized in electric motors. They were going to rebuild it for me, but the problem was more severe than just bad brushes (sorry, I don't remember now what exactly was wrong). Anyway, they ordered a replacement starting motor directly from the original manufacturer, and I was very happy with the price, which, if I recall correctly, was somewhere in the ballpark of a hundred dollars."
