HELP! Airbox screws won't come out for K&N air filter replacement!!!

Hi all, I have a 95 t-bird and was looking to replace the air filter with a K&N filter. I removed the airbox and tried to seperate the case by removing the screws that keep it assembled but they just spin and won't pull out! I've read that some of the airboxes don't come apart and Triumph wants to sell the entire airbox with filter.. that's ridiculous!!! Does anyone have any idea how I can disassemble the airbox and put my K&N filter in? Should I drill the screws out and replace them with longer screws and nuts? I'm a bit nervous about trying to drill a metal screw out of a plastic airbox. Help!! I need ideas or suggestions? But I really don't want to buy a complete aibox from Triumph.

Awsome, thanks for the pics. So should I drill of the screw head, heat up the other end and try to push the screw through (pushing from screw head side), pushing the brass nut out? Then replace screws and reuse the brass nuts?

hello triumph 57,

You must drill the bottom side of the screw, you don't heat up the holes of the screw. I did it cold. You must not try to put the air filter between a work mate or anything else. But only between your legs. Hit the screw a few times on the bottom with a hammer and the screw will come out. My air filter did not break any plastic when I was doing this. The plastic from the new filter was softer than the old one, I think that was the reasen nothing from de plastic was broken off. Good luck with your filter

With regards Jan.
