Why don't manuals agree on recommended spark plugs?

Both my 1999 owners manual and the Haynes triples book list NGK DPR 9EA-9 as appropriate plug type. The big factory service manual lists NGK DPR 8EA-9.
Is either okay, and what would the difference be?

the factory updated to a recomended slightly hotter NGK DPR 8EA-9 . that's what i'm running . plug specs are often updated after time when it's found that a hotter plug is called for .

The 8 is hotter than the 9. "Hotter" means that the plug "retains more heat", not that it actually sparks hotter.

Cool

Hi,

I think it may be to do with the market Triumph targetted their manual at originally? For example the original documentation showed the spark plug suited to the UK's cooler/damper climate. The recommended plug then changed for the US targetted market, where the climate was typically warmer/dryer.

Well...?, an interesting theory anyway!
