can anybody out there help a poor honda cbx rider, my mate has a 1980 cbx that he is trying to get some brakes that work onto ,he has got some 41mm front forks off a yamaha trx 850 but needs to get some yokes for them, the inside measurement between the legs is 158mm and the yokes on my TBS look to be very close but we have no way to measure them acurately does anybody know the correct measurement. (he really does need to put some differant brakes on this bike as it goes like stink but stops like jelly) hope you can help
ride safe Ben

TBS uses 43mm forks, I believe the Bonnie uses 41mm forks.

You would also find the search for tBS fork to be somewhat lengthy, they are rarer than rocking horse poop

About 2 months ago Sprint told me that they almost never see them, but you might get lucky. Triumph-ant always seem to have them but be prepared to pay; the last time they quoted me on them they wanted around $1000 for the forks alone.

He wants 41mm not 43 so TBS doesn't need to be the donor bike. If he were looking for 43mm forks why go with a TBS? S3 or Daytona forks will do the job and mine were are around 400USD shipped to the US a year and a half ago. He's in the UK so shipping would be less.

Its a CBX, I can't believe that on the various CBX groups someone hasn't figured out a cheaper solution to the problem. Maybe benthepaint's friend is too lazy to google.

For your current forks, not a TBS set? Oddly enough he did claim that Speed 3 forks woudl be the same cost too. Maybe his prices went up

this is the main reason I started on the ZRX1200 project - I couldnt get hold of TBS forks without selling rights to my first born child.

You are right about this guy needing 41mm units of course (assuming he wishes to keep the triples), I was just continuing the conversation and filling in a little info.

IMHO he should probably be looking at alternative Japanese front ends - cheaper and more plentiful. The bonnie is going to likely be worse than what he has already - that single caliper is the same as on the standard bird and not exactly renowned for it's stopping power (well not in a good way anyhow).

Hi Ben,

A mate of mine has a Trx850 - very nimble bike. Like many Trx850 owners he has uprated the brakes to R1/R6 calipers (which are a straight swap). I think he still has the original calipers though, so if your mate gets stuck, drop me a PM as I will follow up. (He is based in Sutton, "just" up the A3 from you).

Cheers, Geoff

Cheers geoff, my mate dave with the cbx is on his 4th set of yokes from ebay so if he carries on like that he should hit the right one sooner or later, it,s only cost him 20 quid so far and he will have a lot of yokes to sell back on ebay when he has finished.
Ride safe Ben :-g :hammer: :-g
