Fork oil quantities.

Just a quickie to see if anyone out there can advise me with regard to the amount of fork oil that is in each leg of a '98 TBS. Have previously used a home made measuring rod to 'dip' into the fork slider and pour in the oil until it reached the pre-measured mark.
However, the missus thought it would make a good gardening implement and it's now well and truly useless.
Rather than having to make a new one or even worse.....buy a factory tool, I though someone out there may know the actual fluid quantilty in cc's, mls fl.oz's etc. Thanks.

The haynes manual says 126mm from the top on compressed forks, springs out.
However when I upgraded my fork springs I went with 120mm from top with the springs IN.
I believe Mick or Jimmyj900 would agree the springs need to be IN tubes fully extended and then fill to 126mm or so.
It took a quart and a pint of fork oil (10w) to get it right. But if your careful a quart should do it.

Well, I do everything kind of backwards from everybody else here but my Adventurer took just about exactly 1 pint per side with progressive rate springs installed and the fork fully extended to give me 120mm of airspace.

That airspace is based on experiment and experience so it probably doesn't agree with anyone else's setup.

fork oil quantity

It took 21 oz. per side on a 99 t-bird, a 2000 adventurer, and a 1996 adventurer to get it to the 120 mm level from top extended with the progressive springs in. Jimmy, did you have the PVC preload tubes in when you measured? I can't understand why I would have taken 5 oz. more per leg for me.

I may have mixed it up with a couple of other bikes I was working on around then. Plus it was only a couple of weeks after a pretty good concussion. It will pop back into my head eventually...
