Kittlemeier, please let us know how this turns out. I can not imagine burning through ignitors like that, and I hope that is *not* what is causing your problem.
As far as disconnecting the battery to change the starter out, I probably would not have done that either! I'm just saying that I probably would have considered swapping in a new starter motor as a pretty easy job, and I probably would have just gone for it.
The only reason I have ever seen an ignitor go on any bike was because, one time, somebody had done some arc welding on the frame, and they did not disconnect anything. The current fried the ignitor.
You had mentioned that you had the ignitor replaced (several times?) before. Did the dealership ever tell you why it may have been failing like that?? It just sounds like you may have an electrical problem that has never been properly diagnosed and it is still causing you havoc. It seems odd to me that it takes time for it to cause ignitor failure, like you have some kind of marginally high load on it, or input voltage to it, or something....
I get nervous when I hear of problems like this with our bikes, as it is not like you can find used ignitors for our bikes all over e-bay every day.

I've actually only replaced the igniter once in February but I've only had the bike since October. There was another member who had gone through four igniters and his situation is what's now worrying me.

Hopefully the shop will find it's something simple but at this point it's over my head.

Alright, finally got it to the shop(I don't own a trailer) and guess what, THE IGNITER!!!

The dealership I bought the first igniter from is trying to get it replaced. The dealer said something about them having to give it the once over, per Triumph, to try to find why it burned out so fast which I guess isn't too bad, just a hundred mile trip one way. That's a lot cheaper than another $575 with my dealer discount.

Wish me luck as they haven't said they're gonna do it yet.

Well I wish you luck, you sure you disconnected the battery when you changed the starter. A burnt out ignitor ? could have put a short across it ?

Let's know what they say.

They're replacing it!!!

I definitely disconnected the battery when I replaced the starter. Funny, I guess my mechanic didn't look very deep into the starter area because he asked me if I might have reversed the cables on the starter. Maybe I confused the one cable.
