Well folks, I had the oportunity to seat on a 1998 TBS and a 2001 Legend this weekend. Unfortunately my finances are not there yet, but I've made up my mind to get one of these two models as soon as I can. The TBS I checked out was not a very clean example. It looked to habe been dropped and had a dinged tank and scratched rear fender..shift lever also looked like it had been bent and later straightened...not a good sign. As far as ergonomics, it's ALMOSt there but I can't flat foot it I guess I could live with it...it's still lower than my ex Ducati 907IE (which I managed to drop a few times in parking lot maneuvers) The Legend, on the other hand was perfect fit! I guess the best option (as some of you have already posted) is to install Legend drop links on the TBS or simply go for a clean Legend and change bar and seat for a more "Cafe" appearance...tough choice. I realy liked the Legend I sat on today..very clean look. Jack Liley seems to think that the only difference in between the Legend and TBS engine is just the exhaust (w/ balance pipe) and the less restrictive carburetor rubbers...seems to be a fairly easy upgrade to TBS class power, probably some rejetting would have to be done as well...Anyway...I'll continue to look for a black Legend with low mileage in my area (So. California) or a clean TBS. Summer is creeping in!

California models seem to come up on cycletrader a fair amount. You might want to keep tabs on there.
I for one, vote wholeheartedly for the Legend. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for any other bike out there. In three years of constant riding I've never had a problem with the power, but then again I'm a tourer and commuter, not a racer.

Legend is very a good choice for a special base!!!!!
Like TBS it comes with 17" wheels and acceptable tire size (160-60 is veeeery standard one). Caffeining my Adventurer (front 18", rear 16") is being very hard for this reason (17" is a sportlook must and Italy is the burocracy nation) :X

The only thing different, it's 6th speed and carburation (TBS keihn slides are very fast in opening) but if you mind to start tuning her it's a poor difference (filters and mufflers may bring you quite near to TBS power)...

Take a look now to how was originally my Adventurer, she's becoming a sportbike!!!!

I can thoroughly recommend the Legend. I've had mine, a 2001 model, bought with low mileage, and I absolutely love it. It has an aftermarket exhaust (bit noisy), and has more than enough power for my needs. Brilliant bike - why oh why did Triumph stop making them?
