I always put in 3 quarts, start the engine for a few seconds, let it sit for awhile, then get my Significant Other to sit on the bike and raise it to upright slowly. It takes slightly less than .75 quarts to fill it to the middle of the sight glass. If I make a mistake and overfill it, even just a little, it will blow that oil out through the breather into the air-box, where it collects and then runs out onto the front sprocket cover. I think each bike will be a little different because suspension settings, weight of the rider, etc. can make a difference in how the oil contacts the sight glass.

Just a couple more questions

I have just picked up a TB sp. I evidentualy have the overfill issue going on as I type. I see oil dripping from the rear left side of the pan. I was devestated to think I need to do a pan gasket on my first day. After reading the posts I think it might be an overfill issue. I do not dare drive until I address the problem. So as you suggest I am slowly draining a little at a time. Funny before purchase I looked at it twice and no oil when looking at the bike. He had it in garage on center stand and had just done oil change as recommended in manual. So I assume it was over filled. Looks to be dripping by center stand. Also was told pan bolts and star shaped bolts were to be used with allen wrenches. This does not seem right to me as they look like torx heads. I am not sure if these are metric or standard size. Please forgive my ignorance but I have always wished to some day own a Triumph. Now I do allthough it is a wonderful piece of garage furniture at this point. I have 2 miles on her and counting. the first mile was uneventfull but the second was something like WHAHOOOOOOOYAMUTHA WHOLLY COWABUGA YES YES YES I GOTTA SHOW THIS SOMOVA ROCKET SHIPOFF. SMILING ALL ALONG.
Thanks guys
