89 - midgrade. Check your Owner's Manual. That's what mine says.

My 99 Legend manual (originally purchased in Canada) lists the requirements for fuel in the European format - 95 RON. Some research on this came up with the following from Wikipedia - "However most European pumps deliver 95 (RON) as "regular", equivalent to 90-91 US (R+M)/2."
I just bite the bullet and fill up with premium.

I find that stolen gas is cheapest for me. Just don't suck too hard on the hose, the taste will stay with you.
If that doesn't work for you, regular is just fine.

Cheapest they have. I get 45-50 on regular.

Interesting - my manual says 87 octane, and the T-Bird runs fine on it for 40k miles. Maybe those Keihins are more sensitive? The engine is reasonably low compression, and really shouldn't need anything higher than 87 octane.
The fuelie 955 Sprint runs on 89. It has higher compression though.
Running premium in these bikes is just a waste of good money. BUT - some premiums have higher detergent levels, so are not bad to run once in a while as a fuel system cleaner.

I run 93 octane premium exclusively because of the additives not found in the lower octane blends.

What grade of fuel to use.
I have a 2000 Legend TT - Green Goblin. I use 89 octane or mid-grade - the bike runs very well and gets approx 48-52 Mpg on open road at 60 mph. No backfiring or burbeling in the pipes. I have tried 87 octane and it runs OK but you can tell a difference in performance and mileage.
Even taching as high as they do they still get very respectable fuel results.

I learned during hurricanes Ivan and Katrina when premium fuel was not available that my Legend 2001 runs as well on regular as it does on premium. I was reluctant to try it until I had no choice. I have used reg. ever since. It is at 50,000 and it's going strong.

Additives can be added - for a lot cheaper than the price of premium....
Of course, laziness to go and get the additives is priceless!
If you can tell a difference between 87 and 89 octane on this bike at its compression level - something is wrong with your ride.
