Fork/Tool Bag blocking Radiator on TB?
Hi. I am a new member to this discussion forum. I posted pics of my new 95 TB a few weeks ago without formally introducing myself. Sorry

My first bike in 30 years and i think the TB is a great re-starter bike other than worrying about possible issues i may have.
anyway.....
I put on a fork/tool bag up against the headlight and has about a 3 inch gap above the fender for air to flow thru to the radiator. The other day after a 30 mile ride in 70 F degree temps and radiator fan stayed on for a minute or two after i cut the engine. First time that happened and the second ride after i installed it.
Question is would any of you seriously think i should remove it?

Sometimes if the motor is excessively hot, that fan will stay on a little while after the bike is turned off. Its normal unless it happens alot.

Do a similar ride with the bag off. That should pretty much answer your question.

I run a tool bag under the headlight. Approx. 4'' deep. No worries after 10,000 miles in our hot/cold climate.

Hmmm...only 70 degrees, eh? The fan doesn't behave like this on mine unless it's over 90 degrees. Like meinshaft stated, I would check the coolant level or maybe you have an air pocket in the cooling system.

Yes i knew the coolant level is below the two markers by a half inch but its been that way since i got the TB. No leaks. Intended to fill her up soon maybe today after i get some distilled/purified water. Problem is the indicator is too dimm for daylight viewing right?....so i dont know if the bulb is shot or the cooling system is not working. I am hearing impaired, not deaf, but i wouldn't notice the fan running while riding. Even if the fan is running you dont know if the coolant is pumping.
The system is probably working ok, i was just concerned at first hearing the fan. These boards sometimes get you worried somewhat after reading all the post. But reading on the Macrumors.com boards for a long time, you understand many people go to boards with questions and problems. While the overall satisfaction of a product may be extremely high, the appearance that there are lots of issues is overblown.
Now i need to get crackin. From what i hear... all that needs done is to slide the tank back to expose the opening and fill her up.

After topping the coolant off, give it a whirl. Don't just fill the oveflow tank, crack the cap and check your level in the system also. I've seen overflow tanks paritally filled with nothing in the system as it's lost it's prime. With you riding in the 70's I agree that having the fan kick on does not seem to be the "norm" unless your doing some serious as$ kicking and running the bike flat out. The tool kit will reduce the amount of air flowing across the radiator but I doubt it is that much of a difference. I also would use a recommeded collant and not just water.

I had a saddlemen tool roll on my front forks for about a year. When it started to scuff the front fender, (stock front springs compressing a bunch) I removed it.
My fan honestly runs about half as much now. I think it makes a significant difference on air flow.

I filled the overflow tank to spec with coolant, cracked the cap on a cold engine, and coolant seeped out, so i assume its ok. Hand pumped the radiator hoses which were very firm.
Took her for a 15 mile ride. Then when i stopped i looked to see if fan was running, it was not. Cut the engine and the fan came on for 10-20 seconds.
Took the fork bag off. Went for a ride, a shorter but a harder stop and go ride. Came back, cut off engine, the fan did not come on.
Dont really think its that big a deal but i do have confidence now the cooling system is doing its job/
