Welding on an operable bike.

Anybody know if you can wire weld on a bike frame and not damage any of the electrical systems?
Years ago I welded a bumper bracket on a '62 Fairlane and it fused the points and trashed the battery.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Disconnect the battery and the igniter module.

With the battery out, all electrical circuits are open so you can't do damage from stray current.

Disconnecting the igniter module will prevent either stray current or electromagnetic pulses from frying $600 worth of electronics.

I did some welding with a little Lincoln wirefeed on my frame to replace the stop on the headstock. After reconnecting the igniter and battery there were not electrical problems.

remove the battery, Disconnect the igniter and any other modules.
At work we weld on vehicles all the time after doing the above.

Also Put the ground as you can to place you are going to repair as this shortens the return circuit.
