I'm contemplating buying a used Triumph Legend but I'm in love with some of the 'Cafe' Racer TSB's I've seen in this site. I'm 5'8'' but with a rather short inseam (around 28.5 --> 29) The Legend seems like it would fit me better than the TSB but I would like to put in a solo sport seat with rear cowl as in the TSB's...as well as rear fender removal (or bubbed rear fender)..perhaps one of of those MecaTwin undertrays with brake.turn signals...My question is : Will that seat /mods fit on a Legend without fabrication?
Looking forward to any information you may provide,
Cheers,
JC

Main issue is that the solo seat relies on a key-lock and the Legend doesn't have one. Might consider a TBS and have it lowered (Legend dogbones and drop the forks some. You'll gt the solo seat and the better brakes/suspension.

*****! I though late model TBS and Legend seats were identical...I thought of lowering a TSB, but, of course I'll need to find one at a price I can afford...and I can get the Legend at a lower price, locally. Is it possible to bolt on the seat lock mechanism on the Legend? Also, How much can you lower the TBS without running into fender clearance issues?
Thanks for the response!

Dong bones are good for a little over an inch.

Don't confuse the TB with the TBS. The late model TB and the Legend share the same seat mechanism, but not the TBS that I know of.

It is possible to fit the lock.
The other (much easier solution) is to convert the seat to bolt on by way of adding some brackets. to make the seat fit properly you also need to pack out the seat a little at the front to make up for the difference in the frame shape.
I have previously converted a late Thunderbird to key lock (same rear subframe as a legend), and also fitted a solo seat. - been there done that, look in my photo album, link below.

I also have a shorter inseam and my Legend fits like a glove. I'm also a big fan of the cafe look and am slowly swapping parts to get there on my '99 Legend (I'll post pics soon). From the looks of it (I'm not 100% sure since I don't speak French) Mecatwin should be able to set you up with the fender delete and single seat for a legend. If true, I'd say go with the lower cost, local, and already comfortable legend and enjoy playing with it instead of tracking down a TBS and be less comfortable initially. Not that the TBS isn't a great bike, but spring's a comin' and it's time to ride.
That's just my 2 cents.

Did Triumph sell solo seat/cowls for the standard Thunderbird?

Thanks for the reply. Well I checked mecatwin and it seems their solo seats are specified only for the TBS, not the TB (which would make it compatible with the Legend).
I seems to me the problem turns on the following:
1. Are Triumph Sport seats w/ cowl compatible with late model standard TB's? If they are then they should also fit the Legend...if they don't then they probably only fit the TBS, so the only way to use them in the Legend is to modify the seat mounting to be identical with that of the TBS...
What do you guys think?
