thunderbrird/legend quick seat release

I hate those goofy inaccessable screws. Purchased on ebay a seat latch from one of the fancier triumphs: our frames have the mounting holes already. Made my own bullet latch pin using 1/2 piece of round steel; cut a slot in it to receive the latch lever; rounded the head for easy insertion. the hard part was making the mount for the latch pin so it lined up right. I didn't add any kind of lock; i just pull the latch release and off come the seat. To long a deal to describe now. i can't figure out how to post pictures here. Email me at leo.weisman@dmh.mo.gov and I'll send you some photos. At some point I'll figure out how to post the whole series; or one of you can post my photos for me since I'm inept.

Identical bikes

Nice to have you aboard.
I too have a 2001 Legend (green).
What you are one up on me with is the 1979 SP1000. I sold mine years ago and have regretted it ever since. All over N. America, Europe, and other distant lands and she was an absolute blast!
Just curious which one do just hop on more?

The guzzi has been down since before I bought the legend in Dec 07 though I fully intend to get it running again. the SP has 144,000 miles. I also have a honda 750 nighthawk (with an SP fairing) that I put 88,000 miles at which point the heads became so carboned up the valves wouldn't close. I'm in the process of hooking up the pieces on an ebay motor that is now in the frame.

I bought the Honda 750 because the narrow section tires on the guzzi weren't chunky enough for all the road repairs, lips, and ledges on the highway as they repaved (for years). And now on the highway with the spring pothole season, chunks are coming out where various seams come together LONG WAYS. May have been what sent me down last week on the Legend (we both got up and road away.

After all the years on the guzzi, bought new in 1981, I just couldn't go for a plastic clad sport tourer. I like being just a bit different and the Legend fills the bill admirably. However, I suspect the Legend is going to roast me in the summer where I didn't find the guzzi to send off so much heat. Or maybe I just don't remember. Anyway, the guzzi is the best. I have taken it to many BMW rallies and it always gets scads of attention, what with all my rube goldberg devices and contraptions.

north of you

Yeah I hear you on the condition of the roads around here. I am north of you in Northern IL (right on the Wisconsin line) and there are holes in the roads you could park a car in right now. Oh well, I guess paving season must be close.
I had not thought about the tire width on the SP but it is pretty old school and skinny. I love the Legend but do miss the Guzzi. I sometimes go to Elkhorn WI on the first Saturday of the month when they do the Italian Moto Brunch put on by some of the local Guzzi people. Always lots of interesting Italian bikes but it rekindles the desire to replace the SP.
Mybe see you on the road this summer, BBC? New Glarus?
