Need your feedback: Highway pegs/forward control brackets-black or chrome?

Great News!

I have designed a set of all steel bolt-on brackets for our Hinckley Classics (Thunderbird, Thunderbird Sport, Legend and Adventurer), which create a mounting platform for either highway pegs or forward controls. I have a prototype right now and am working out the fine points. Once the design is complete I plan on making a run of about 10 sets (more if demand requires) to see how the initial sales goes on whether or not to continue making more.

My target price for the brackets, mounting hardware and instructions is far less than the current alternatives on the market (all the ones I have seen are well over $200 for non-chrome finish). You will have to provide your own foot pegs -just like everyone else's design.

The options for finishes are: bare metal-unfinished ($99 a set) powder coated gloss black (around $130-150 a set) or chrome (around $ 175-195 a set). These are just my target prices, if I can get the coating prices down, the prices will adjust accordingly. I am not trying to get rich- just break even on what I have spent and cover my time making them-each bracket is hand made and requires a considerable amount of time to make.

If I could keep the prices in this ballpark- how many people would be interested?

I will post pics of the finished product in a few weeks (about to start finals this week-time is a premium right now).

Buyers will be responsible for shipping costs (yes, I will ship overseas).

Let me know what you think.

So far it sounds good to me.

Not yet...

The prototype is still pretty crude. Will post pics of the finished product in a few weeks. I am going to try to have pics of black finish and chrome finish.

I'm sure there is interest, just going to depend on what they look like and how they attach. Will be interesting to see what you have come up with.

While I wouldn't buy a set someone just asked me about highway bars for a Legend.

These are my thoughts on what highway bars should do:

1. Make them more stylish than the competition. I have always like bars set up like these:

They just look more attractive and interesting than the oval ones, or god forbid those awful ones that just dangle from the upper mount with that massive piece of metal. Working the rubber orings into it also lends a touch of class over straight metal ones.

2. Don't limit lean angle.
Shaped like that the bike will be able to lean over far further than the standard oval ones. It would be awesome if you made a hinge that could bend back a little in case of aggressive lean, but under impact would stay put.

3. Weather protection.
Some bars I've seen on Harleys allow you to fit weather protection which is nice considering that with your feet forward both cold and rain is going up your pant leg. You don't even have to develop it right away, just allow for it in you design.

4. I would suggest a rear set of bars, but considering how many different pipe positions there are that's probably going to be hard.

5. Some kind of pad or covering for the part of the bar that will touch down in a simple parking lot tip-over.

That's it. I look forward to seeing this project as it develops.

I might be interested in the Chrome ones. I would like to see a pick about how they attach.

That design would place your feet above your waist on our bikes! Not a good idea on *any* bike.

What's the status on these "possible" forward controls? I might be interested in them for my 03 'Bird.

Thanks,
Darien
