Legend Speedometer

Hi,

Upstate NY. 2000 Legend 37k+ miles. Yesterday on the way to work the speedo just quit. Everything else is fine. Cable? Speedometer? Is there an easy way to trouble shoot which?
Thanks

Mike

Aloha Mike,

My guess is the cable is toast. Unscrew the cable from the back of the speedo......grab the tab and pull....if it comes out with 1/2 a cable you'll know for sure. It's a real easy fix....undo the retaining screw on the hub assembly next to the front axle....simply replace with a new one....I doubt there is another cable that will fit so you'll have to use a Triumph cable from the dealer or Bike Bandit.

BTW-where in upstate are you located?

Hello, patrol21.

Thanks for the reply, I'll pull the cable off in the morning and take a look at it. Hopefully thats all it is.

I'm a couple hours south of you, outside Elmira. I bought my bike new up that way in 2000 at Canandaigua Motorsports. Still stop there. I'll give them a call and see if they have one in stock or can order one for me.

Thanks again,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Check bike bandit after calling CAN motorsports. BB is generally a bit higher priced and it takes about 7-10 days to get the parts but saves the extra trip....anyhow, hope this is the issue.

My guess would be the cable is toast. Mine went at about 45K miles.
Easy Peasey to replace.

You're right, it was an easy diagnosis. I unscrewed the cable and it came off, followed rapidly by a 2" piece of the cable that fell out of the speedo. I'll order another and put it on. Thanks again for your help.
