Chain life varies greatly from bike to bike, rider to rider and chain to chain. Its affected by many things including but not limited to how aggressively you ride, whether you ride in dusty or wet conditions, how often and well you clean and lube it, the condition of the sprockets and how high quality the chain is.
38k is very good for longevity, particularly for a stock chain. Most people report around 10-20k but I have heard numbers outside of that range either way
