Legend or TBS?
I am torn between the above bikes, basically because im a fan of blacked engines.Which would most liken the characteristics of my 900 Trophy (which im keeping,I hasten to add)
Legends are a bit scarse compared to TSB's.
The TSB has six gears I believe, does this make a big difference between the two bikes?
Or does the torque on the Legend do away with the need for a sixth gear?
Hope you can enlighten me folks!

Legend has a shorter seat height, TBS has a better suspension and brakes, if either of those make a difference it should be the deciding factor, if not then it really is a matter of choice.
I love my Legend, but sometimes wish for a taller bike and often wish it had dual front disc's, but I would not get rid of for that either.

I'm not a chrome guy, so the Legend is for me.
The bike cruises fine at high speed in 5th gear. I have read that it is possible to upgrade the existing 5 speed transmission to a six speed (there's a spacer where the sixth gear would be). It would be an interesting winter project.

Thanks guys, yes the seat height,Im 5'11" so I guess that probably wouldnt matter?
No I'm just not into chrome either, would like a Harley if it was old and tatty lookin, but back to triumph's, Its the cruising speed around 80-90 im concerned about as the Trophy just idly buzzes along in 6th gear,I wonder if the TBS is tuned pretty much the same?
Still fancy the Legend though.

Tuning is the same on both. The TBS is a far better deal - the suspension and brakes are far superior to the Legend. You can fit legend bars and lower the seat height on the TBS if you prefer the stance of the Legend. These mods are much cheaper than uprating the brakes and suspension. I'm pretty sure you will find the Legend lacking if you are used to a Trophy.

Many owners find the gear of the five-speed Legend a little short, that´s why a taller profile rear tyre 160/70-17 can be recommended or even a one tooth larger front sprocket (DID, for instance, includes a 18-tooth directly in its driving kit, instead of the 17 of stock).
I´ve read that the TBS is the opposite case, the sixth gear appears to be too long to keep the engine in its torque and they want to shorten the gear a little.
Since I didn´t like the short height of my Legend seat I remade it higher and changed the dogbones of the shock for the Thunderbird´s. The resulting height is quite similar to that of the TBS.

For me TBS all the way.
I would get the one with the twin pipes on the right.
With the extra gear you can afford to down gear it for more torque without loosing the top end gearing.
I am not a fan of the blacked out engines and I like chrome, but the TBS is a far better machine if you can get it. IMHO

Well, here's an owner w/both a Legend (2000 model) and a Trophy ('96 1200). I'm the original owner of both. Both get ridden a lot (big edge to the Trophy on mileage, as I enjoy the bags). I've taken both -- on different trips -- to the Smokies and have done lots of riding. The Trophy wins hands down for a long-distance tourer, and especially for 2-up traveling. The Legend is a great little fun bike -- feels like a 250 when compared to the Trophy's weight -- and handles like a dream for me through twisties, etcetera. I have no problem with the brakes. What's different between the brakes on a Legend & the TBS?? My Legend has twin disks up front/single disk in the rear. What's on the TBS?
Yes, the suspension could use some work, especially for 2-up riding. It's adequate, but I certainly wouldn't take a stock Legend 2-up on a long distance trip. I would (and have) taken the Legend on solo long distance trips, w/o any problems or repercussions.
Bottom line -- go with your heart and get the bike that fits you the best. Both the Legend & the TBS are great bikes. I wish I had one (I really like the yellow/black w/2 pipes up the side). The TBS definitely has the edge on suspension and is taller than the Legend (I'm only 5'9", and the Legend fits me fine, tho' I may someday rework the seat and add 1/2" - 1" to it. My 6'4" friend -- who rides a Trident -- was 'way too tall to be comfortable on the Legend, and he preferred my DL650 for the 4 days he was in B'ham last fall).
YMMV

Stock Legend has only single disk in front. So what's the history of yours?
Did you buy it used? Does it have adjustable suspension in front? If so must be TBS front end on it??
