Need recommendation for chain change. 99 adventurer

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to the most reasonably priced place to order a change and sprocket set for a 1999 adventurer as well as suggestions for brand/type of chain.

Thanks,

Mike

Chain/Sprocket Replacement

In respect to the chain, go for quality regardless of price! Like engine oil, there are many opinions as to which make is the best. For what it is worth, I am a DID fan and fitted a 50VM X ring chain. Only time will tell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JT sprockets seem to get a good write up. Replaced both of mine with these and went up one tooth (to 18) on the gearbox sprocket. The OEM sprocket has a band of rubber around both sides of the gearbox sprocket which the JT does not. This rubber is designed to 'cushion' the chain around the sprocket and absorb any noise. The lack of it seems to make no difference.

Also fitted a Loobman Oiler to extend chain/sprocket wear. So far, so good!

I agree with the above.

DID make great chains and JT sprokets are good as well.

X-ring type chains will last many times longer than the cheeper ones so in this case spending the extra money is a good investment.

What country are you living in? You should be able to find a dealer selling a complete chain and rear sproket kit. You could fit it yourself if you are that way inclined. (you will need to buy a chain breaker and riveting tool)

Having fitted a few myself I would not judge anyone for getting a professional to do it for them.

+1 on the DID X-ring chain and JT sprockets. I installed both myself in Spring of 2007 and I've done far fewer chain adjustments than with any other chains that I've tried over the years.

I recently did a lot of research on this topic and found that the least expensive O ring chain was at Motorcycle-superstore.com. It was a Western Power Sports O-Ring chain. I purchased one but have not installed it yet. It looks like a quality item, but only time will tell.

I found a 43 tooth JT rear sprocket for $44.09, and an 18 tooth JT counterhsaft sprocket for $21.59, at Bikebandit.com.
This was the most cost effective approach that I could put together.

thanks for the tips. I am new to this whole chain thing. I have only recently gotten back into riding. I haven't had a bike in about 10 years and I haven't had a bike with a chain drive since the 80's.
