Carb balancing

Hi guys

Just 2 quick questions before I take my TBS to bits.

When you take the carb bowls off to get to the pilot jets, do I need to replace the o rings. Yes I know we should, but in your experiences am I likely to get away with it?

Also when purchasing vacuum gauges to do the balancing, does the rubber hose between gauge and carb just push on? It's just that the website talks about 6mm and 8mm adapters.

Thanks

Tomsdad

Which carbs do you have?

The Mikunis are pretty sensitive to overtightening of the float bowls (since there are only two screws) and have a bunch of o-rings that you should replace considering the age.

The Keihins have four screws holding the float bowls and if you're gentle with the screws you won't need to replace the gaskets. I've had mine apart so many times the screws wore out, but there's no leakage from the float bowls.

Keihins

I have Keihins and I just put the rubber hose straight on the studs to balance.
The adapters are for carbs that have threaded holes with a bolt in them to keep the vacuum when not being used.
