trophy brakes

ok...anybody out there know if the stock brakes from a 1999 triumph trophy 1200 will fit on a 1998 triumph thunderbird? and if they do fit, will there be any improvement over stock? i am going to put some hayabusa front calipers on my trophy and i thought the "triumph" stamped on the stock trophy calipers would look pretty slick on the thunderbird. anyway...anybody got any input on this?

They won't fit the Stock TBird forks.

but if you put forks from a T3 Trophy, Sprint, Daytona or Speed Triple.

Then you'll need a Wheel that has mounts for dual discs.

Wheel from same bike as forks.
Or maybe a TBS wheel (good luck finding one) if you want spoked wheel.

You'll likely need to have one or two custom spacers made.

Not impossible, but not exactly simple either.

Hi,

Just a couple of extra points, to add to denny's good post, and looking at it as a possible straight "bolt-on".

I think you will find the Thunderbird mounting holes are 85mm, whereas on your Trophy they are 90mm?
The Thunderbird's caliper is a 2-pot sliding caliper with both pots on one side. The Trophy's caliper is a fixed 4-pot caliper with 2-pots either side, and having 2-pots either side the (Nissin) design is broader and a problem for the spokes. There are 4/6-pot fixed caliper designs (Beringer/Harrison/Pretech) which are slimmer and can safely be fitted with the spoke wheels, and have the 85mm fixing. However, if going for a fixed caliper then the rota/disc should be changed to a floating type, from the solid currently on our Thunderbirds.

Hope these extra bits, with denny's post, helps?
Geoff

The Hayabusa calipers are the 6 pods?
Then you could better use ZRX forks and 310 mm Kawa discs. It depends one wat kind of wheels you will use.
I am building something like that after seeing the MickMaguire Tbird overhere.
Mick is using the wheels of the kawa ZRX too but i will use spocked wheels because i find it more classic, specially when the Tbird is black.

The Hayabusa pots are a bit different then Kawa one´s. They use 8mm bolts and the kawa ones are 10 mm to bolt the calipers on the fork.
A spocked TBS wheel is hard to find, a new one is verry exspensive (about 450 exl. taxes euro overhere in Holland, without discs)

And like Dennis said : Not the easy way

Greetings
Matthy

the difference must ony be in the head size - I am using busa calipers held on with ZRX bolts.. i.e. the caliper bolt holes are the same.

Make sure you use floating rotors with the 6 pots

t-bird brakes

thank you for the prompt and accurate reply. it seems that i will stick with the stock t-bird braking system for now. as for the 'busa brakes, i will post more when they arrive and see how that installation goes.

as always, thanks for the prompt and accurate information. excellent group of fellow riders.
