New Tbird monoshock 2002 on the cheap
I finally got around to replacing the shock on my 2002 Tbird, I'm a big guy (330 lbs) and the stock shock with 5000 mi was shot- I would avoid brick streets. I did a lot of research and found that the Kawasaki 2005 1200zzr shock was the same length but the bike weight about 200 lbs more that my bike and was adjustable for spring length and rebound, it seems I got lucky as it seems they only used this for 1 year but Kaw and a Honda have an air shock that looked good but was maybe 1/8 to 1/4 shorter.
I moved the battery box back about 3/16 with an aluminum bar spacer (may not have had to but wanted to make sure spring would clear)and used 2 thin washers to take up space on lower 'U' (was about .025 wider than stock but top was fine).
Moving batt box meant the air box snorkel needed to move as well , so I clamped a large wood dowel that fit into snorkel then heated up the plastic with heat gun and bent it back a little-worked fine but you have to watch the heat and have a wet rag ready to 'set' your bend.
I also change oil & filter, plugs, anti freeze, adjusted the carbs and put in a K&N air filter and fixed some wiring from other owners.
The ride is now SOOOO good and I have it set about half way on spring height and rebound, I found it on EBAY for about $80-90 shipped ? it was over 1 year ago when I bought it, I did the mod last Sept. but my camera broke as I was taking a 2nd set of photos (lens went out and stuck, they wanted $196 to fix= file 13) and somewhere I lost some good photos or they are somewhere safe in my computer in a file I have not found.
