Timing retarded...

Hey I've noticed almost all of these new bike have the timing retarded a bit or a lack of advance. Most likely just as modern car manufactures have done to help with emissions. I know there is a company that sold an advancer kit for our 900's.

Has anyone tired one?
Would this bring down my torque a bit lower in rpm range?
Would I need to retune the bike or just drop it in?
Who sells these and how much?
would this cause any negative effects on the starting or overall performance of the bike?

Thanks a million Ken

Factory Pro make one. I have no idea if it is worth the money, but I do believe that if you fit one you have to use higher octane fuel to avoid detonation. AFAIK it's a drop in mod, no other mods needed.

Fyi

No longer in stock at the above mentioned company and likely not to ever be restocked...

I believe that somebody else here has filed the holes out a bit to allow rotating the trigger a few degrees. Same result.

Other Motorcycle: I wish!
I would be interested to hear what they did.
The OEM part and a bit of filing is about half the price of the FP part.

Yep, it was me that filed the igniter pick up mount holes to give est 2deg advance. No problems with detonation on regular fuel. I believe engine makers are likely to build in tolerance when setting the firing point & I'm just taking some back. You can always slide the pick up back round a bit if you're not happy with results. My 'butt dyno' thinks it's an improvement

Considered that

File or modify the existing that is. I think I found one from Parts Unlimited. We'll see if it comes in, I had my dealer order one as I couldn't find one stocked at most of the online bike shops. I know there will be a bit better windup time which is what I'm looking for. Now to fint the new Epco pipes on the way!!
