Adventurer for a newbie?

I just purchased a 99 Adventurer. I've never rode bikes before but I love the looks and have heard great things about the Adventurer. Will this bike be decent for a beginner?

HI Patton,

Welcome to riding....you picked a good bike. The triples are a great motor and the bikes are a nice stable, easy ride. Like anyhting, you can get over your head fast but it's all how you take it. I've been riding for nearly 35 years and if I can give you 1 piece of advice.

****LOOK OUT FOR THE OLD GUYS WITH HATS!!!!!!**** hell, for that matter...look out for everyone on 4 wheels.....I am sure everyone has noticed that the # of bike wrecks/deaths is climbing......not that some aren't the riders fault, but I have seen waaayyy to many times, we have to be faster/smarter/more reactive, than a car. Remember, we are only a ding in their quarter panels, then you wake up in the emergency room.

It'll take a little time to get used to the torque. Just take your time learning the bike. You made a great choice because you won't outgrow it quickly.

My legend was/is my first bike, worked great for me, there's enough power down low that pulling out isn't difficult and it has smooth delivery, so it's easily controllable. The "standard" riding position gives it that bicycle quality, the sort of goes where you're thinking connection rather than bigger bikes that you have to persuade. Very good bike, not quickly outgrown like a 250, these are just as good @ 1/10 as they are at 9/10!

Taking a safety course is good advice - and watch out for all those cars - they hurt you......

Watch out for bikes too - A HD undertook me while I was filtering traffic yesterday, made me jump a bit - what us Brits call "not cricket" - just shows not all riders are like "us"

Welcome to the happiest club in the world.......

I've got a 2K Adventurer (Mutato) that's identical to your '99 and love the bike!

Be sure to read through the 'Known Issues' forum here and you'll find a bunch of info on the potential problems of the breed. It's a pretty short list of 'real' problems and a lot of 'preference' issues but will help you identify anything that might go wrong.

I'd highly recommend running some carburetor/fuel injection cleaner through the fuel to clean out the carbs and also that you get the carbs balanced. You might find that makes the bike even more likeable!

Also, if you're having a problem or even think that there might be one, post it here and we'll do our best to resolve it.

Jim

Thumbs up

What a great bike!

I reserected a 96 the year before last for my first bike. Sleeping since 97 in salvage yard in NC a friend owns with under 400 miles on it. Replacing the front legs, & fender, new paint, factory sissy bar, factory double seat, & newley purchased Highway bar.

I only got to put around 1000 milse on it last summer but it felt GREAT!
Some carb trouble from its long rest & those pesty coils, replaced one going on the second (most likley change all three to NOLOGY directly).

The Safety course is a great tool for new & old riders, highly recommeneded.

Also this site & these great bike owners are a wealth great infromation.

Parked at work or at any biker function with the HD'S & Japs these bike's really stand out.

Good Luck & enjoy your bike.
Corey
