Windshield for $86?

Aside from proper fit, are JC Whitney Windshields alright? Any nerve chilling horror stories?
I'd hate for the thing to suddenly fall apart in a wind blast as I'm passing a semi and be glued to my chest and face by the force. No one could hear me scream. That would be about as embarrassing as the time the bucket of KFC "country style ribs" escaped from the bungee cords and bailed out on the interstate--moistened towellettes and all. It's something you never want to see in your rear view.

don't know about the jcwhitney , but alot of the sheilds i've seen are made out of really thin plastic and have crappy stamped hardware . i recently bought a memphis shades shooter and couldn't be happier .

it's 1/4 " thick lexan with really nice hardware . it's only $154 from dennis kirk (free shipping) .

http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produc...fCatId=&mmyId=

it's 14" above the headlite and is about level with the bottom of my helmet while sitting on my adventurer . if you want something taller theres the classic duecce 18" and 2 others that use the same hardware so you can just buy different plastic for like $75 .

i bought mine in solar . just a nice light tint , not gradient .

Whitney doesn't manufacture. They just buy in volume and resell, so if you can figure out the maker of the windshield (or other part) you can sometimes do pretty well on the price.

The shipping might be another matter...

like jimmy said , it's hard to tell with jc whitney . years ago (25 yrs) i worked for an alfa shop and we chanced an order for pistons for a 4 cyl . you could only order pistons with liners from the factory with liners and they were pricey . well when they came they were with liners for 1/3 the price and they were oem ! beautiful convertible tops for $200 . not sure how they are these days though .

just measured the thickness of the national cycles shield on my wifes buell and it's .11 " and the memphis shades one on my adventurer measures .20 " . no comparison on the hardware . the memphis shades wins hands down .

I'm curious about how all this works out.

The gas tank supports broke on my truck, the temps here have been just above freezing in the morning and the wind blast on 70mph/25 mile run to work is beating the snot out of me.

I wouldn't mind so much in warm weather but between the rainsuit, Widders and heavy jacket it's gotten to be a lot more punishment than fun riding to work.

I had the EX on my TBS. Too big. I had the non-EX on my XS1100. Just right (but obviously different bikes). The cheaper 2 point mount line (like the non-EX) was too light duty when I bought the non-EX (at the time I had a 700 Honda Magna). The 4 point line is much stronger.

On the XS1100 I would normally have the sheild so that the wind hit me in the mid chest to shoulder area. When it rained, or was cooler, I would just adjust it higher. I wouldn't call it a winter shield, but then again, I live where we have winter. And with all the #$%#$%^ on the road, I am (for all practical purposes) done for the year (mid day rides with awesome temps at creeping speeds aside).

I had a National Plexistar II on Mutato a while back and I was really pleased with the 4-point mounting. It was 'fiddely' to set up initially but worked fine and allowed considerable adjustment of the windshield slope.

Now I'm looking at the National Street Shield EX with the same mounting system. That's an 18" high shield and looks about the right size.

National list is $119.95 + $13.19 shipping = $133.14

JC Whitney lists it for $113.99 + $20 shipping = $133.99

Phat Performance Parts for $89.95 (shipping wouldn't calculate) ???

Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse at $107.95 + $13.19 ship = 121.14

It also looks like all these outfits are drop shippers.

So... there's some variation in price there and if Phat is for real it's a pretty good price.
