I have been losing oil recently and initially thought I had overfilled the bike, after it got to the point where I was going to go below the sightglass I took action and removed the front sprocket / clutch cover.
here was the front sprocket
the other way round ( to confirm the tooth twist )
I pulled both oil seals ( shifter and clutch rod ) and they were starting to go bad ( probably both original)
I bent back the tabs on the washer and ending up using a 2 foot length of 2" exhaust pipe as a breaker bar while I balanced on my right leg with all my weight on the brake pedal.
I flushed all of the clutch hyd. fluid mainly due to not using zip ties on the piston, doh. then one of the screw heads in the hydraulic reservoir decided to strip, luckily I had a spare from when one on the front brake side did the same thing.
I had to drill the head off which was a very precarious situation.
finally got that sorted
After replacing everything with nought but a new gasket and some elbow grease and the smallest dabs of rtv it was buttoned back up ( BTW cranking up the front sprocket by myself was not easy I recommend finding a friend to help) and I refilled the oil .
No leaks since and my new chain is having a much smoother life now
I worry about the sightglass though, sometime it looks like its just some residual oil in the bottom of the window rather than filled evenly ( on the flat on centrestand.)
Im tempted to add some more oil but dont want to tempt fate too much.
