Hi.

I'm trying to install these dualstar heated grip elements I got for christmas.

It recommends tapping into the power for the headlight. That makes sense to me, that way the grips will turn off when the key turns off.

I opened the headlight to get at all the wires. I have the switch mounted on the handlebars so I thought it would be good to tap in inside the headlight and run the wire out with the rest of the wires.

Now for the $10,000 question. Which wire? I have the manual with the wiring diagram and it shows to red wires going to the head light. One red/black and one red/yellow. Which one do I tap into? My thinking is that if one if for high beam and one for low beam, then I would lose power to the grips when switching the lights.

I'm no electrical genius, but I have the wiring diagram and can take directions. Please help.

thanks

ok. I found my digital multimeter.

After looking at the wiring diagram I found the blue and yellow wire that goes to the switch. It seems to get a constant 11 volts no matter whether the high or low beam is on and loses power when the switch is turned off.

DOes this sound like the correct wire to tap into?

Oh well,

I got impatient so I went ahead and tapped into the blue/yellow wire.

Seems to be working. I'll try it tomorrow night when it is supposed to be in the 40's
