I Need a New Battery

I figure it's time to put a new battery in my 99 Legend. Any advice? Conventional or AGM? What about having to charge it at home vs. buying it charged? What brand's the best? Who has the best prices, etc.?

Winter storage?

I am about due for one in my Thunderbird but due to the fact that I am getting ready to store it for the winter, I will just leave a battery tender on it and get a new Interstate battery when the weather warms. I can't see getting a new battery just to sit it in a bike that's not being run.

In the spring, I will call the dealer and ask him to throw a battery on the charger for me, ride out next day and put the freshly charged new battery in the bike and ride away. I have ridden until the battery dies before but I don't like the thought of push-starting my bike at the gas station after shutting it off to refuel. Been there, no need to go back.

I am too lazy to dig out the receipt but as I remember, the new Interstate battery cost me around $35 and last 2-3 years.

I would go with a AGM. worth the extra $$ I assure you. Jut make sure that you buy an exact replacement for the Yuasa item . Or a Yuasa AGM ( bring the original to the store if you must ) I thought I was geting a deal on an Everstart (Taiwan Special) that the Wal-mart battery guide book said was for the 900 T'bird. and It does work. But the size is wrong. its too wide. about 1/2 an inch wider than the stock battery. And the terminals are on the "wrong" side of the battery. (farthest reach for the cables)
Lesson learned.

I replaced my OEM battery with an Interstate CYTX16-BS AGM.

It was a few $$$ more than the standard wet battery but I have not had to worry about it going dry.

Worth the extra IMO.
