Unhappy Help! TBS won't start.

It's starting to get cold in upstate ny and I'm losing valuable riding time. Lights, horn, signals, everthing electrical seems to work fine. But when I push the start button all I get is one "CLICK" from the left side of engine near the starter. Replaced the battery so it is not that. Oh, and if I put it in gear and move it forward a few inches it would start again when I put it in nuetral, (until a few days ago that is). That trick no longer works. Any ideas what exactly might be going on? If it is the starter, would I neccissarily need to replace the whole thing or could I possibly get the particular part I needed ? Buying a whole new starter would deplete my whole (secret) motorcycle fund. Yes, I am married. Would greatly appreciate any help as I am a complete dunce when it comes to mechanical matters. 98tbs

Your starter motor is deceased.

Thanks JimmyJ for responding. Did a search (which I should have done before, sorry ) and found you and others had addressed this issue before. Closest triumph mechanic is several hours away so now I have to decide on whether to use a HD mechanic who has volunteered to help or find a way to load it into my truck, take time off work and spend a whole day just getting it to a T- mechanic. Sure sounds like it's the starter from what I've read. Which do you (anybody) think is preferable, rebuilt or used one if I can find?

+1 on the Starter. If you have a strong friend or a big hill you could probably bump start it and ride it there... Mine turned out to be used up brushes. The starter was something to the tune of $600 and a few weeks wait, as it wasn't it stock, the brush kit wasn't in stock either, it was $60 i think....
Needless to say, off to advance I went and filed down a set of Chevy v8 brushes to fit and attached the old leads. Been runing on those for over a year now. $5 and 3hrs, I even have a spare set as the box had 4 brushes and the bike only uses 2.
