Question Faulty Rad Pressure cap?

I had the flickering coolant light problem, and went to my local Triumph dealer to get it fixed. He told me that in addition to the ground problem ..that I also had a faulty rad pressure cap..and that only a little bit of coolant was present in the bike..A New one was fitted and new coolant was added. On riding the bike home, after 7-8 miles the temp light came on and stayed on (no flickering). On reaching home I found that the engine, and my leathers were covered in coolant and the fan spinning away.Rang the dealer..who spoke to the technician, who says that it "could only be a faulty rad pressure cap"..and so I'm waiting for them to collect the bike to re-do the work.
Is it common or likely for rad pressure caps to go wrong like this?even if it was brand new? The dealer assures me that the coolant system was properly bled.
Your thoughts gentlemen please!!!

It is certainly possible that a bad cap was an issue the first time. I haven't seen much posted here about that being a common problem and mine is still good at 40k miles.
As to your issue after the ride home, either they damaged the cap's gasket, or more likely left something loose like the bleed screw. It is also very easy to damage the plastic elbow on the overflow tube when removing/replacing the tank.

Remove your fuel tank and check the plastic elbow on the catch tank! If this item is broken or cracked, you will experience the same symptoms. Many of us have had this item fail.

Yep, checked the elbow, AOK. Tested rad caps, not holding pressure.
I don't think the Triumph units are very good.
The Kawi one I got was for an offorad bike. Looks very heavy duty.

Can you tell us what model/year the Kawasaki cap came from? We like to keep a list of interchangeable parts out in the "General" forum.....and I have not seen this one before.

Cool Be careful

By putting a unknown cap onto the tank, you have no idea what pressure your system will be held at... I think these run about 1 bar (15 PSI) but if you increase the pressure in your engine by not letting the excess go out.. you could create other issues... One thing I read earlier has a guy cutting up a inner tube and making a rubber washed to put between the cap and the bottle?.. Again, what's the ens result?... I'm looking at these links as I myself have a Legend that drip's... two or three drops from the bottle overflow after every trip... Initialy when I got the bike it was about 1 Ltr down but topped it up and it's been fine... So I think I just have a cap issue?
.
But just be careful as fitting cap's not designed for the bottle you have may over pressurise your system leading the leaks / hose problems etc... John

Pressure should be signed on the cap I thought.

Red face Cap pressure

Yes.. it may be.. but it's all relivant to what you screw it into and the amount of compression it puts on the spring... That in turn could alter the pressure at which it blows off....
