I will be doing a spark plug change on my T-Bird soon, and I was wondering if there were any hints from those who have done them before.

I have done a few car spark plug changes, so I am not a complete novice, but I want some of the inside info on doing a t-bird.

Lefty loosy, righty tighty. :-D

In all seriousness I just changed out the spark plugs on my bike at my 12K service when I was checking the valve clearances. I simply bought a pair of plugs that orginally came with the bike. I didn't try another type. If you have the Triumph toolkit then it is a breeze using their tool.

Mine didn't come with a tool kit, unfortunately.

Are the plugs deep in there? Do I need an extension?

Mine didn't either but I did my 12K service with my buddy who has a TBS and those bikes come with a kit. I went to a Yamaha shop and bought a spark plug socket meant for some Yammie bike which worked on mine. The middle spark plug was too tight a spot to get the Yammie socket in so we used his that came with teh toolkit for that one. We plan on cutting down the Yammie socket a bit so it will fit in the center hole.

If you ask nicely maybe you can borrow your local shops socket? Cafetbird and TBStunta along with of course Mick can probably answer this question better so I will defer to them for a more authoratitive answer.

hey jerry... i also have a 96 bird...u need a 18mm socket..the one i bought at the local ace hardware fit just right down the hole .. yes u need an extension .. now once u get the plug loose enough to come out , take a some plastic tubing(old fuel line work works good )..put a slice down the side with a razor knife about 1/2 inch ...then u can push the tubing over the plug and pull it out....works good try it..that center hole can be tough but it will come out...good luck.....tom
