2000 Legend

I just purchased a 2000 Legend with 7,900 km this is the my first motorcycles after being away from riding for over 20 years. The engine is fairly noisy sounds like a diesal truck at idle. Am I right in assuming that this is normal ? I am also getting a small amount of black water leaking out of the right header pipe where it joins the muffler, any ideas on what may be causing this?

Yes they are not the quietest of motors, perhaps valve and cam chain adjustment would quieten it a little, as for the water then its more than likely condensation which I am told is the sign of a healthy motor, you could take off the silencer (very easy to do) and put a little silicon around the joint before you put it back together, this usually works. Dont think you have any real worries, just dont try to compare the engine to a Honda 4 which in would sound like a sewing machine. Dont worry just RIDE.

Thanks for the info. Glad to hear that it is nothing serious. It's my first Triumph, I have been used to the Japanese bikes in the past and it's the only the classic triple that I have ever heard running since they are a bit scarce here in Calgary, AB. Thanks again
