OK - the number you quote is for the nylon pannier kit which comprises the panniers and the rails that keep them out of the spokes. The panniers themselves are no different and have the part number A9510014. The rails do get different part numbers after VIN 71698.

Rails before are A9730031/2 and after are A9750058/9

Mick has said previously the rear subframe changes across the TB model years which explains the different part numbers. So, from your POV, panniers are OK but rails are not.

I purchased rails for a mid '90 bike for my 2000 Legend. Not a good fit, too short. I used steel brackets to make them fit. They will be too long for your bike. Good Luck

hey chris

so I would need to get the part# for the rails, to determine if they are compatible with my bike?

dknapp, are the tbird and legend the same size bikes? would I run into the same problem you faced?

thanks for the quick feedback !

The early TBirds (the ones with key locking seat) have a different rear subframe than the later ones. The subframe on the later ones and the Legend are pretty much the same. The change happened in the 99/2000 model year (coincides with the change to 6 speed gearbox in the TBird, and bolt on seat). They actually did not have 99 TBirds listed in the US catalog, but some were imported anyway. I think 99 was the first year for the Legend. So the Pannier brackets that fit the Legend should fit any 2000 or later TBird.

The Adventurer is a totally different animal from the Tank back. The TBS is more closely related to the Pre 2000 Tbirds, but still a bit different.
