High Mileage Hinckley Triples
Hi
Wondering if anyone else has a high miler - I have 130k on my 1993 naked Trident 900 (100 mile round trip to work does it every time) and have replaced most of the usual stuff (bits of electrics, wheel & steering head bearings, shocker and an iffy coil once)but it just keeps on working - I do all maintenance myself and would like to know whether i just got lucky or when she's going to blow!
So far not a rumble - a little low on compression from the Haynes manual and the matching oil use....

130k, that's impressive..
There is a story that a London courier clocked up 250k on a 900 triple. Apparently the factory took it back for evaluation and gave him a new bike.

New Bike
Another 5 years and I''ll call Mr Bloor !
I have to say I'm impressed - I bought her with 14k on 10 yrs ago and use her most days (quite good at wading in Gloucester recently after the rain)
I took a Suzuki GS425 up to 60k working for Quicksilver as a DR in the early 1980s and took it apart when a piston broke - the inside looked like it had been chromed !

The 250K story is true (Triumph made much of it at the time) and the bike did it on only scheduled maintenance and daily riding.
Supposedly the bike innards were like new when the factory guys did a teardown -- the benefit of overengineering and synthetic oils...

Synthetic oils go a long way to improving the life of an engine. There is no reason that 150,000 should not be obtained, that is if you give an oil a chance to work!.So many people wreck thier engines by reving too early,The watercooling helps to get it to temperture quickly, but you`ve got to give it time.Oils cheaper than a new engine,oh and change it 25% earlier than recomended

25% earlier ? I change mine on the book 10,000km and it comes our looking pretty good. So good in fact I use it as a general lube for my tractor linkages. Diesel oil on the other hand comes out at 5,000km really looking yuk. (err not on my bike).
Anyone else see any benefits long term of changing oil earlier than manufacturers recommendations ?

Ride on !

I change my oil every 3,000 miles and the filter every 6,000.
I don't think that you can change oil too often, within reason.
Clean oil is cheap insurance.

65,000 km and change. Oil and filter every 5000km. Oil is SPOTLESS when I drop it too.
