Adventurer hiway bars
Does anyone have any experience with the hiway bars that mount to the three bolt holes in the lowerfront of the engine block? I have seen pictures somewhere, I think Ma's sold them. I don't know if Triumph offered them.
I'm having a bar milled so I can try out the design. I'm wondering if engine heat is a problem - it's got to get hot being mounted to the engine underneath the exhaust pipes. I wonder if the vertically inserted bolts will back out.
So, anybody have any experience they'd like to share?

i have them , came installed when i bought my adventurer .
never used them for what they were meant , but they'll save ya from the dreaded shifter shaft break in a no speed tip over that i can attest to !

I made me own set a couple years ago. No problemo with heat. Put a small drop of threadlocker on the bolts. About three years, had two falls and both times they have saved the engine cases. Great on that long ride to stretch out the legs.

Love mine. The bolts needed tightened once in the year and a half that I've had them on. (backed them out and put more threadlocker on, been tight since then).
If you have one of the earlier models that already has the holes there, the worst part is already done.

I had a friend make me a highway bar (great bay fashion) . I bought pegs for $20 and gave him a bar and screws to weld to it. came out great. LMK if you want the demention lenth I used for the bar. no problem with heat but I did have trouble drilling the holes straight before tapping. start with a very small drill bit and get the first holes good then redrill bigger to the size called for. I have ridden from OHIO to MA. 3 times before puting on the bars. my knee's would give me pain when I reached 700 of the 800 miles (one day). I love these bars now, no more knee pain.

Got em on my Adventurer too. Talk about saving my bike when i took a spill doing about 35mph. Only damage was left mirror and turn signal and scraped highway peg. Not a scratch on the tank, engine, or pipes. The highway peg was the first thing that hit the asphalt and saved the rest of the left side. Only complaint......wish they were a little more forward, when i stretch out my legs, the part just above my achilles is what rests on the pegs(wish it were my heels).

Well I put the bar on yesterday. Looks like it's gonna work fine. I already have the hiway bars that came on the bike when I bought it but they're the type that mounts to the frame/engine mounts. They rode a little high and, due to the design, they are uneven. I never liked the way they looked. At least I already had the foot pegs. I had a machine shop mill me a steel bar 21" long and drill holes in it. The new bar is lower and, like johnnyjs1 noted, they are a little closer than the old ones so my legs don't extend as much as they did. It'll take some getting used to it.
Does anyone have problems with the pegs touching pavement when leaning over in turns? It's probably not an issue but they seem much closer to the ground than the old ones. Like I said, it'll take some getting used to.

I have fixed pegs on mine(ie. they dont fold up) and have not scraped them yet, did a track day with them on, I screw the pegs out of the bar.
Normal twisties I dont have a problem. We have some pretty tight stuff around here too.

Interesting result of having lower, closer hiway bars...I realized last night that I'm sitting up straighter now with less tendancy to slouch. That has to be better for my back but now my butt starts to get sore after about an hour or so of riding - THAt didn't use to happen (though I realize practically everybody else hates their stock seat, I've always been comfortable with mine).
