Dealer Service Error?

Because of a generally busy work schedule and having an out of town guest, I had not ridden my 99 Legend for almost 2 weeks. So last Sunday morning I was out in the garage early, cleaning, polishing, lubing the chain, etc, for a long ride. As a rule, I look over things to make sure all is OK. I was wiping bug guts off the fork sliders when the rag make a 'tink' sound so I took a closer look.

In May, the local dealer installed my new Avon Storms. What I found was that ALL four of the bolts on the bottom of the fork sliders (the bolts that clamp the axle in), were loose. One was so loose, it was close to falling out. Of course, I tightened everything up and spent the next half-hour checking other fasteners.

Previously, I had an 'unleasant' experience at this same dealer and could not help wonder if this was a mechanic's error or something else?

Any thoughts?

Wow that could have been a mess !!!! dont know why he would have to take those loose anyway? We have a 99 legend and have never seen loose bolts on the botoom fork clamps.

Read the post again please mr Triumphrider 99, it seems your comprehension skills are a little lacking today.

I would be asking that particular dealer why he is trying to kill you. Perhaps they dont like you. Seriously I would not return. I would recommend my friends not to go there either. Perhaps threaten to name them on a world wide web site for the monumental blunder. I would expect some reparation.
Did you take photos of the loose fasteners? some evidence would be handy .

It would not have been possible to capture the loose bolts in a photo. As I stated in my original post, one of the four bolts was 1 to 1.5 turns from falling out. The others were at various stages of being unscrewed.

I went back to this dealer to give them another chance - when they installed my new tires. They are about 35 miles from me, the other Trump dealer is about 120 miles away.

I'd like to be tactful, if I do call them. Seriously - any suggestions for an 'approach' will be appreciated. I don't want to necessarily accuse and definitely don't want to rant/rave.

So if that front wheel had come off, I would have had to do a wheelie all they way home, then try to crash land it on my front lawn????

Time to call the dealer to let them know about it. Wish me luck, I don't think they will take the news very well.
