Replacement indicator bracket?

Hi guys need some help on my 1999 Thunderbird. Difficult to explain. But the triangular chrome bracket that bolts to the headlight and has the indicator bolted through the middle?? This also attaches to two threaded studs on the top chrome sleeve of the front forks. One of these studs has broken. This means that the headlight assembly and screen are not secured properly and move about slightly.

The fix is to change the chrome upper sleeve on the forks. Now I have never done anything to front forks before so I am a little worried.

It looks like a matter of taking the top yoke off. Is it as simple as it looks. That is undoing the top centre nut and the two top nuts of the forks? What happens when I do this? Do springs and things fly everywhere?

I have done most repairs to bikes over the years, but never played with the forks.

Is this best left to a dealer?

Help most appreciated

The easiest way to replace it is to remove the front wheel and fender. Then loosen the pinch bolts and drop the fork leg down.

Don't touch the fork top nuts, there is no need.
