Time to sync
Ok, so it is time to re-sync my carbs (had them off twice to replace throttle cable and clean air filter) and this is something I hate to admit I know very little about. I am usually pretty good with these types of things but am still trying to learn my way around the Keihin carb. My hope is that someone here would be kind enough to offer some advice and/or pics. I have a Carbtune II and have read as much as I could here through searches so mostly just hoping for pics to know which screws to turn.

Not that tough
You will be hooking your guages up to the three ports provided on the front of the carbs. You should find them hiding under three black rubber covers. I like to attach in the same order as I'm looking at them. The bike idle should be between 950 and 1050 rpms, I like 1000 since it is a reading on the tach. Just inside the two outside carbs is a screw nestled down in the linkage, the center carb is the master. A short screwdriver is what I use because you will find not much space. Look at your guages and adjust the left or right to match the center, check you idle, make adjustments as needed to maintain 1000 rpm and check your match again. Now do the same thing to the other side, keep in mind you want to maintain 1000 on the tach and this will change as you sync. Also you must remove yourself from the adjusting screw after each adjustment because you will find that just the pressure of your hand will affect your readings. It is a little bit of a pain because you will have to go back and forth a bit until the three read as close to equal as humanly possible, take your time and you should get a good setup. I like to rev the engine a little to see if all three stay in sync, not to 8500, just a bit 2-3k in short revs just to see what they do. Any thing odd can be a result of several things, one most important is the valve adjustments. Valves out of adjustment will make it impossible to get a perfect (subjective) sync. You can still do the sync but valve adjustments would be in order if they should show signs of early or late valve timming. Have fun, and take your time. Also try to keep the bike cool, it will get very hot just sitting there running.

I just get a bit confused when I start looking for the screws because of course it looks nothing like the Triumph manual. I will give a look when I have some sun.
I did just check the valve adjustment about 500 miles ago so I should be good there. Thanks for the reply, just a little new to this stuff...

It is a philips head screw, the one on the right is easier to see than the left one. They are right in the middle between the carbs and they sit just on the linkage.

Ok, I'm blind
That was what was throwing me off. I was not able to see that second screw in there. Thanks for putting up with a newbie's questions!

I thought it was a pretty good rant...actually- I'm glad you asked about the sync- I have to do that too- I had the concept but not the actual process- ecrabbit96 gave a good step by step. Not to hijack- but I'm wondering/assuming if they should be synced after any jet changes- I'm also reluctant to buy the tool (around $100??) can it be done as well with a 2 tube tool? I've seen them on ebay for a lot less. Finally, how often should they be synced? (I just bought the valve adjust tool so I'm trying to cool it for a while).
re: the newbie thing- I am 60 and just started riding about a year ago....I forget what my point is!

Anytime you fiddle with the carbs a sync check would not hurt. Main jetting would have little impact, pilot jetting would. We sync at idle and check at low rpms for matching readings. A decent quality 4 guage sync tool can be aquired for around 60 bucks from sportingforless.com http://www.sportingforless.com/motor...sync-p-63.html
They are analog but work great, and with a tripple you have a spare guage if you bugger one.
If not from them JC Whitney carries the same set. I just popped over there (sporting for less) and did not see the sync guages, but that is where I got them. Maybe a call will tell you if he has them. Regards

nice site-(sporting for less). So far I found this:
http://www.sportingforless.com/carbu....html?cPath=23
Two cylinder- says it'll adapt for more... I dunno.
