Speaking of Valves!
Hello everyone !I didnt get to my valve adjustment this last winter.I made the tool,(mines not real pretty),but then spring rolled around, and I wanted to ride.
NOW everything has fallen in place to go to The Sturgis Rally ,except the odometer on the 99 Tbird now reads13700.
My bike runs fantastic, but I,m scared here.Round trip from my place here in Ogden,Utah to Sturgis , South Dakota is approx.1200 miles.
I decided I better run this by you guys.
I,m not going to trash an engine .I,d rather catch Sturgis next year!
Thanks and I hope your all having a great safe summer on your triples!MAX

I would at least lift the valve cover and check them. At 20,000 klms mine required no adjustment. At 30,000 they needed one shim, at 50,000 3 shims, at 70,000 no adjustment and none since. I check em every ten. It now has 97,000 klms, and I will be replacing everything I can find to replace at 100,000klms.

That's really bad advice... if a valve is tight it could easily burn out in 1200 miles. Get the check done ASAP and certainly before along trip. At the very least check them to see how tight they might be before deciding. How the bike runs is no indication of whether this maintenance needs to be performed or not.
However, having said that - if your valves were checked at 6000 like they should have been then in theory you wouldn't need them to be checked again until 18,000 so you are well within the service interval. Triumph now recommends valaves be done at 6k then every 12k after that. The original recommendation used to be every 6k.

Just remember; an awful lot of the free advice you will get on forums is worth exactly what you paid for it. There will always be somebody trying to convince you to do something really stupid, just because they did it or want to do it.
