The Triumph Service Manual specifies Mobil HP 222 (now called XHP 222, I think) grease for lubing the rear suspension of the T'Bird and Adventurer, whereas the Haynes Manual specifies molybdenum disulphide (moly) grease. So far as I can see, Mobil XHP 222 is a lithium thickened grease that doesn't contain moly (although they also produce 'XHP 222 Special' which does). As usual, the Mobil product isn't readily available locally.

Any views on the correct/best grease to use for this purpose? Is moly grease the way to go or would a multi-purpose lithium grease do just as well?

molybdenum disulphide is for low speed, high pressure applications. So, yes that would be the choice.

Other Motorcycle: Can't afford two!
Extra Motorcycle: Three would be insane
Either will be fine - I use the Mobil XHP as recommended in the manual

I happened to take mine apart this spring (can't remember why now) and found that even though I had lubed it 2x a year it was not fully greased. You may wish to take the linkage apart and confirm this. I had to clean up some rust, etc, as a result. Now I KNOW it is fully greased.

I use a product called roller-plane grease, it is very high in moly, and has excellent water resistant qualities. It is not branded, I got it from a mine site I was working at, they use it on the draglines. I have had no trouble with the rear linkage in almost 100,000klms.
